One of the reasons comics are particularly accessible to new language learners is that the verbal text is primarily conversational. Conversation is usually the first kind of language a new English speaker learns. The relatively easy to ready nature of the political cartoons is also one of the reasons they appealed to readers who do not like long descriptive narratives.
